Real Stories
Timmya is a 26-year-old single mother expecting her second child. When her employer retired and closed his practice, she lost her income overnight. With savings running low and SNAP benefits as her only support, she fell behind on rent. With help from Hands That Serve through St. Francis Community Services, Timmya received assistance with her December rent payment and food — buying her time to stabilize and re-enter the workforce through the Pathways to Progress program.
Lissandra came to St. Louis after fleeing violence in Nicaragua. When an ICE action resulted in her partner’s detention and impending deportation, she was left alone with a newborn son and an income of less than $9,000 a year. Hands That Serve helped cover her rent and food — so she could keep her son fed, housed, and safe while she found a path forward.
What Your Generosity Made Possible in 2025
From Those We’ve Served
Thank you so much for your financial assistance. I don’t know how we could have gotten through this difficult time without your help. Your support gave us enough time for Al to find a good job and we are finally off the streets and in our own apartment.
Laura, South St. Louis

As a local business owner, I feel it’s important to give back to the St. Louis community. My monthly donations to Hands That Serve allow me to see my charitable contributions at work.
